Our newly formed Student Council, created in October 2023, is poised to do great things. They’re already finding creative ways to improve their skills, promote positive morale in the classroom, and give back to the community.

They’re organizing competitions like “Chopped – The Hair Edition” and “Anything but Hair” – which help students improve their skills in the salon, their ability to think fast and innovate, and their overall confidence. These competitions unite them as student cosmetologists, exposing them to leadership opportunities, teamwork, and new techniques.

In addition to organizing competitions, they organize bake sales, bottle-return drives, food drives, and toy drives for charities in Lapeer County. We support initiatives like the Eastern Michigan Food Bank, Holiday Depot, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Domestic Abuse Awareness campaigns while creating an environment where “Giving Back” and helping the broader community becomes a habit for all of us.

Our student council also creates exceptional signage to promote events and competitions, allowing students to focus on their artistic and advertising skills for a bit. The signs help increase participation and excitement in the school and are vital to the student council’s work.

The leadership qualities displayed by our student council are evident in their impeccable organizational skills. As they plan and coordinate various activities, they enhance the learning experience for students and set an example for everyone in our community. Their intention to grow and elect officers indicates a promising future for the student council, ensuring positive contributions to the classroom and the community.

 The council has twelve members and meets every other Monday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.

 Most recently, the council has been able to support students in our program and their families through illness and death by contributing a portion of their fundraising proceeds. They've also raised dollars to support Lapeer County’s Paradise Animal Rescue.
