Automotive Mechanics

Program Description

Automotive Mechanics program is a NATEF, National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation certified program which provides basic automotive instruction in the field of automotive repair. The State of Michigan requires all working automotive technicians to be licensed in the areas for which they are employed. Successful completion of the class will prepare students to take four out of the eight State of Michigan certification tests. The four areas of Michigan State certification we cover are: Engine Tune-up and Performance, Suspension and Steering Systems, Brakes and Braking Systems and Electrical Systems. First year instruction encompasses basic skills of auto maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotation, belts and hoses, the use of the hoist and safety practices. First year students also focus on the Braking System in preparation for their first State Certification test. Second year students broaden their topics of study to include engine tune-up and performance, suspension and steering, and electrical systems in preparation for other State certifications. We offer an innovative mix of instruction along with hands on experience providing curriculum that is designed to prepare students for employment and success in the automotive repair field.

      • Parts to put a complete 2016 Malibu together – all of the parts were included except the tires, doors, steering wheel, and headlights.  The car was one of the first runs on the assembly line and they test to see if the line is operating before they start mass production.  Thinking they were going to scrap the car they dismantled it and then found they could donate it to us.  Mr. Howell intends to put the car back together.
      • A new engine and a transmission for a 2016 Chevy Volt.
      • Two additional new engines for the 2016 Malibu.
      • A 6-cylinder engine for a 2016 Cadillac CTS 6.  Our program is the only one to have this engine.  So far only 70 of the cars have been made and they were loaded on trucks which will be heading to California.  All of the stars will be arriving in these cars when they pull up to the red carpet at the Gammy Award Ceremony.
      • 10 more new engines which had been intended for Cadillacs, Volts, and Malibu.
