Cosmetology

Program Description

Students in the Cosmetology program will train to become licensed by the State of Michigan in Cosmetology or Nail Technology in this hands-on program. This is a two year (1500 hour) program. Those who are interested in completing the state required 1500 hours for licensure will need to consider attending summer hours. Students will learn such things as: cutting, coloring, permanents, skin care, nail care, styling, retailing, salon management, and customer service. Instruction includes development of applied mathematics, chemistry, anatomy and record keeping. Training is achieved in a real working environment with emphasis on hygiene, sanitation and customer relations. Students learn how to help people look and feel their best while growing their communication skills. Students will also learn to adapt and apply their craft to a diverse public and hone skills that are necessary to enter the workforce in the beauty industry. Cosmetology graduates may move on to employment as hairstylists, salon managers, sales representatives and image consultants.

  • Sep 18 - Icon Shears presentation, education and purchasing available.
  • Sep 18 - Eric's Shears- Educational and shear sharpening service.
  • Oct 18 - Headquarters Salon presented.
  • Nov 18 - Students volunteered at Neighbors helping Neighbors at Lapeer Center Building. They serviced 50 plus haircuts for those in need.
  • Nov 18 - Students worked on handmade gift items and presented the holiday Elf Shop. This was a fundraiser for Skills USA.
  • Feb 19 - Second year student, MacKenzie DeLong, received first place medal at Skills regional competition.
  • Mar 19 - Former graduate who is now a financial consultant with PNC bank along with still doing hair came in and talked to the students about money management in the world of a hairstylist.
  • May 19 - Second year students took a field trip visiting beauty supply stores learning about products and prices.
  • May 19 - Students collected school supplies for the Lapeer County LOVE Inc. Backpack program.
  • Jun 19 - Supercuts haircut demo and recruiting presentation.
  • Jun 19 = Platform artist Drew Suza with Pretty in a Minute Education demonstrated the latest techniques in styling with Hot Tools.
  • Feb 21 - Second year student, Delaney Miller, received 2nd place in SKILLS USA regional virtual competition.
  • Jun 21 - Delaney Miller will compete in SKILLS USA national virtual competition
  • Students received certification in Barbicide and Salon Safety and Disinfection
  • Participating in Love Inc., school supply project
